Silver Salmon Slamming of the Columbia

Hello everyone!

Fishing for Silver Salmon went into over drive this last week off the mouth of the Columbia River out of Astoria. We fished five days with six people each trip and limited each day in less then 2 hours! One day it was 45 minutes and the fishing was just "SILLY".

The fish are also very close with the warm ocean waters allowing everyone to be on the fish quickly. I will go with a tech report on the upcoming silver and chinook fishing as soon as I finish this report! But first a few updates on the fishing in the coming weeks and months.

Currently the Silver Salmon fishing as mentioned is hot in the ocean and is open seven days a week. Limit two salmon a day and one can be a Chinook. this season will continue until the quota is caught and may go to five days a week to ensure the season goes thru Labor Day.

Buoy 10 (Columbia River) salmon season for Silvers opens August 1st. While the best easiest fishing will be just off shore we are already seeing Silvers jumping in the river. So on days when the ocean is to rough we will be fishing the Columbia. Our plan of Ocean first and River second will continue until the 2nd or 3rd week of August when we will just be fishing the river.

August 22nd the Columbia (Buoy 10) will open for one Chinook per day per angler. We will be fishing the river and trying to get clients one each when possable. This is the shortest Chinook Season in many years and is scheduled to end on or before September 3rd.

We cannot know for sure but it is a probability that the Silver limit may be increased to three in the river later in August or Early September. Stay tuned for a hot Salmon Fishery out of Astoria for the next six weeks.

Halibut: There is a all depths Halibut season opening August and the dates will be changing daily based upon the Quota's. So call us to check on trip availablility and open dates.

Tuna: This is also a call and check deal as we are booking alot of Tuna trips on days when the weather allows. Rates run from 185-225 depending upon the boat. The fishing has been good and the fish close to the coast.

Tillamook and Nehalem Bay Fall Kings are just around the corner. With the fishing for Silvers Tuna, Halibut and Chinooks on the Ocean and Columbia River it is understandable that people forget about the Fall Chinook Run in the two best bays for Fall Chinook along with all the North Coast Streams. But better check you schedules and reserve your dates as they are filling up fast.
